This is a hugely fantastic read and I really did learn and take a lot from it than I ever knew about the warped electoral system. Political office holders would always act in their interests at all times.

An excellent synopsis of the reality of the existing structure. Only something momentous will move any sitting Nigerian president to implement the recommended measures to make INEC worthy of the label, 'umpire' instead of the glorified choreography manager it has been for nearly 3 decades.

Okay. This is really good. Just added the Uwais report to my longgggg reading list.

Anyways, the only way for fundamental change to happen is sustained pressure during the constitutional amendment process.

I'm talking of protests and ultimatums to demand that the report be implemented in full.

You need a credible opposition for that...

I also did hear that Jonathan apppointed Jega, someone he didn't personally know, as INEC chairman. Which was unprecedented.

That was an own goal. If he was serious about electoral independence, he should have implemented the report in full instead of depending on "Character".
